People are amazed at how labour intensive the complex upholstery process is. A coil sprung seat consists of up to nine different layers. The webbing supports the coiled springs. These are sewn in place then laced into the right position, and covered with heavy hessian. More stitching ensures the next layer of horsehair or coir can be built and shaped into the right profile. This is topped with a second layer of hessian, and stitched to give the seat edge strength and structure. This is topped with more hair, then a layer of cotton felt all held down by calico. Now the seat is ready for the most important layer, your chosen fabric.
We supply fabrics from the following companies. Click the links for inspiration.
